M’sia supports The Hague’s decision on guilty verdict for trio that shot down MH17 – PM Ismail Sabri

CYBERJAYA, Nov 18, – Caretaker Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that Malaysia supports the decision reached by a district court in The Hague to sentence Russians Igor Girkin and Sergei Dubinsky, and Ukrainian Leonid Kharchenko to life imprisonment for shooting down Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 eight years ago.

The Prime Minister said that Malaysia is also satisfied with the reliable and transparent judicial process implemented in the Dutch legal system based on the rule of law in order to obtain justice.

“Malaysia, on behalf of all parties affected by this heartbreaking event, would like to express its deepest appreciation to the members of the Joint Investigation Team consisting of the Netherlands, Australia, Belgium and Ukraine who have worked together to conduct an international criminal investigation. against the MH17 tragedy.

“Malaysia once again wishes to express its sympathy and condolences to the families and next of kin of the victims of the MH17 flight tragedy.

“Although there is nothing that can restore their lives nor reduce the sadness and suffering experienced by the family and loved ones, the court’s decision today is hoped to some extent will be able to give some relief and peace to the family and next of kin of the victims killed in this tragedy,” he said. in a statement today.

A Dutch court today confirmed that passenger plane MH17 was shot down by a Russian-made missile.

Three accused persons, namely Igor Girkin, Sergey Dubinskiy and Leonid Kharchenko, are guilty in the criminal case.

On July 17, 2014, the plane, which was traveling from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, was shot down in eastern Ukraine, killing all 298 passengers and crew.
