Ismail Sabri has an advantage, say analysts

The recovery agenda especially in ensuring the prosperity and economic development of the country needs to be the main agenda of any government that will be formed after the 15th General Election (GE15).

Business Development Manager, Putra Business School (PBS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Associate Professor Dr Ahmed Razman Abdul Latiff said, the matter needs to be given priority as the country will face challenging economic conditions next year.

He said, as the leader who led the country in the previous government, Ismail Sabri was seen as having an advantage in ensuring the continuity of the country’s economic recovery plan.

“One advantage Ismail Sabri has is because he was in the government before. So, if he returns to the government, he can continue his previous plans, no need to start from scratch.

“We can also say that he can also improve especially the planning in Budget 2023 and what is stated in the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK12),” he told Sinar Harian on Thursday.

Ahmed also did not deny that the planning done by the previous government indeed has the potential to enable the recovery of the country in terms of economy.

“But the issue I saw happening before the dissolution of Parliament was due to the government’s unstable position with the size of the cabinet being seen as too large and filled with individuals who are not really qualified to satisfy many parties.

“That is why Ismail Sabri once said that after this he wants to reduce the size of the cabinet so that it is more efficient and lined up with people who are truly qualified and able to lead the ministry to focus on the recovery of the national economy,” he said.
