Commuters angry, frustrated at sudden weeklong LRT disruption

Commuters are angry and frustrated after finding out that RapidKL’s Kelana Jaya line of the Light Rail Transit system (LRT) will be out of service for a week.

According to New Straits Times, Nur Alwani A Bakar, who commutes from Pantai Dalam to Petaling Jaya using the rail service, said it is very inconvenient to commuters like her who solely depend on the LRT to get to work.

“Where is the RapidKL management? Where is the minister in charge? This issue needs to be rectified and remedied quickly.

“With the LRT out of service for a week, I now have to fork out extra money to pay for the already expensive e-hailing fares,” she said.

The 27-year old company executive said nowadays the roads are always congested.

“They told us to use the public transport systems like the LRT to reduce congestion, but they can’t even maintain them properly. It’s not the first time something like this has happened.

Another commuter, Nur Hazimah Abd Rani, 30, said she commutes daily from Sri Rampai to KLCC via the LRT Kelana Jaya Line.

“The LRT has always been a means for me to commute to work and for personal matters. But now, with the weeklong closure, I have to find other alternatives.

“I now have to request to work from home to my company as driving would be time consuming due to traffic and e-hailing services imposing exorbitant rates, especially during peak hours,” she told the media.

She also added that despite the feeder buses provided by RapidKL, it is was insufficient to accommodate the thousands who use the rail network.
