Al-Sultan Abdullah disappointed over political situation, consents to poll

PETALING JAYA, October, 10 – Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has expressed his disappointment over the current political situation.

In a statement on Monday (Oct 10) issued by Comptroller of the Royal Household Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin soon after Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the dissolution of Parliament, the King said he had no option but to consent to the dissolution of Parliament so that the mandate to choose the government would be returned to the people.

Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah hoped the Election Commission (EC) would hold the 15th General Election (GE15) soon, taking into account the northeast monsoon expected to begin next month.

“Therefore, His Majesty expressed the hope that the Election Commission will conduct the general election in the near future, taking into account the northeast monsoon season expected to start in mid-November,” he said.

Ahmad Fadil said an unscheduled meeting was held at Sunday noon (Oct 9) where Ismail Sabri presented his wish for the Parliament to be dissolved.

The King stressed that a strong country is important to guarantee continued political and economic stability for the wellbeing of the people and the country as a whole.

“His Majesty called on the people to pray that the country and the rakyat are always blessed and protected from any form of calamity, especially flood disasters,” he said.
