Remote working has led to a flexible working environment in the company. Employees do not need to physically access the company premises to do their job. Therefore, according to Journal of Management & Organization on forced flexibility and remote working, opportunities and challenges in the new normal, they can do multiple jobs remotely from their homes to earn more income rather than being restricted to only one job.

This implies that employees are flexible in performing any job at their own time and can switch to other jobs in the industry. It can be considered as the best advantage of remote working in the business market because achieving flexibility in an organization is one of the hardest thing that a company can offer. However, since recent studies has shown that remote working do not decrease the level of productivity of an employee, but in fact increases it more companies now prefer remote working.

Reduction in operational cost of the company is another reason why several companies are adopting remote working. Few employees access the company premises when only the job requires physical presence in the company while others work remotely.

This means that several office space and offices will not be used by employees and the company can lease them out or use them for other productive purposes. Some utilities such as electricity and water are also reduced in the company since majority of employees are working from home. Remote working appears to have several advantages from the analysis. However, it also promotes divided loyalty because a worker can get more than one job from different factories, making it hard to decide on which company to focus on. A worker can lose focus on one company and concentrate on another.

According to Journal Applied Psychology on achieving remote working during the Covid-19 pandemic, a work design perspective, it has led to development of new job designs, which can be expensive to be implemented in the organization. However, remote working has proven to be more advantageous than the disadvantages it possesses.

Therefore, various companies should innovate ways which they can use in promoting remote working other than encouraging physical presence of their employees in the organization.–THE MALAYA POST
